March Mountain Junco: Watercolor a Day for March 4

“Mountain Junco” by Kristin Gjerdset 2014

Watercolor and Ink

This was painted from a photo I had taken at Rocky Mountain National Park in May of 2011. I noticed a dark bird flitting about in the snow, foraging. She or he stopped long enough for me to take a picture.

Juncos visit my yard everyday throughout the winter here in Wisconsin but it was the first time I saw a mountain junco. With an interest in birding, it was a great personal moment.

    1. And I know spring is coming when the juncos depart…and they are still hanging around my yard. Soon, yes. Seeing them leave is, I have to say, one part of spring I do not like. 🙂
